Otago Hockey Chairperson's welcome

Nau mai haere mai, welcome, svaaget he, varavēṟpu, bula vanaka, as-salaam alaikum, huānyíng, afio mai.

We in Ōtepoti, Dunedin, are proud to welcome everyone to the 2025 Kate Trolove Cup and it is our pleasure to be hosting such a prestigious tournament. Hosting the tournament here provides competitors and supporters opportunities galore on, and off, the turf. For the competitors, there will be that special vibe associated with tournament weeks; excitement and tensions that arise when the outcomes are unknown and reputations are at stake. Friendships will be developed and there will be occasions when we will stop in awe at the skill, stamina and creativity of some very special athletes. For the supporters, the close proximity of the three turfs, and the side-line lounge, means it is easy and comfortable to watch your favourite team as well as spy on the opposition.

Off the turf, the opportunities abound in, and around, our beautiful city. Whether you enjoy exploring the spectacular architecture and street art, riding the waves at one of the many outstanding beaches, hanging out in the countless fabulous coffee shops and restaurants, visiting museums and art galleries, or exploring our famed gardens, wild life and tertiary precinct, there is something for everyone and every age. In Ōtepoti, Dunedin accessing these taoka (treasures) are available within minutes of leaving the turf. Rest assured, whatever you do during tournament week, you will experience our renowned Southern hospitality.

The tournament could not go ahead without the tireless efforts of many, including; coaches, managers, umpires, officials, most of whom are volunteers and association staff. I wish to publicly thank everyone who has worked behind the scenes for months to make sure the tournament is a success.

Finally, I wish everyone an enjoyable tournament. My hope is that the tournament will be memorable and mana enhancing for all involved.

 Ngā manaakitanga.

 Nāku noa, nā,

 Tania Cassidy, PhD

Chair, Otago Hockey
